The Wisdom Behind Turkey and Syria Earthquakes
The Prophet Muhammad said believers are like bricks in a building, and together they make up the whole. He PBUH also compared believers to one body, saying that when one portion is harmed, the rest become attentive out of sympathy. The Quran and Prophets unite us as one identity and one Brotherhood. This Brotherhood is stronger than the Brotherhood of Blood because our Iman flows deeper than our blood. Over the past few days, Turkey and Syria have upset the whole Muslim community. Muslim hearts grieve and eyes fill with tears when they watch media images of destruction.
Now, some of us might disobey Allah’s will in a sense that why is Allah letting these quakes happen? Why is Allah permitting these dreadful things? Now, the Disbeliever says, Turkey’s location on two tectonic plates proves that everything is scientifically rational. But the Believer, on the other hand, recognises that Allah controls those plates and the entire Earth’s crust and Allah orders and wills everything. Now which one to stand with? and why? We’ll analyze the soul wisdom behind these earthquakes in Quranic and Prophetic context.

1. Allah is Almighty
The Muslim knows how to pray to Allah in times of need. If these events, which we often refer to as natural disasters, really are manifestations of Allah’s omnipotence, then it is fitting that He who created the Earth should be the One to shake it with His mighty hand. The power of Allah can bring people to their knees in an instant, despite the fact that they may regard themselves as the apex of a tremendous achievement that took years or even decades to achieve. According to the Quran, Allah has the ability to bring punishment down on you from the heavens or the earth. If you think your strength is greater than Allah’s, then He is telling you to check your ego at the door. That’s why it’s important to be reminded of our genuine position: that we aren’t as magnificent as we imagine. It ought to make us feel small in the eyes of Allah.
2. A Purification From Sins
Prophet PBUH declared that no fatigue, disease, grief, or thorn pricks a Muslim unless Allah expiates some of his sins. Therefore, whoever died or was hurt is loved and purified of their sins and raised in rank. Perhaps Allah wants them in a higher Jannah than they deserve. Allah sent this to purify and elevate them.
Imam al-hadith Bukhari stated that a person crushed by a falling wall is a martyr. Martyrdom and a high-ranking heaven, but at what cost? There is always a greater wisdom, but sometimes the slave doesn’t realize it. Inshallah, these folks will spend eternity in bliss and satisfaction, despite their pain. Believers comprehend Allah’s decrees. The left behind face a big test. Allah says we’ll test you with terror, hunger, money, and life loss. Brothers who lost their children, children who were orphaned, and families that were wiped out must be patient and persist. Allah rewards patience. Calamity victims should respond, “We belong to Allah and we will return to Allah.”
3. A Warning Call
The third option is for people who aren’t in the same boat. Even if we weren’t directly affected by the quake, we are still linked to it in some way. Why? Due to the fact that it serves as a call for a return to Allah by the masses. This is a message to the individual who doesn’t believe in praying. At any moment, Allah could call for your death and take you back. This is a warning that even within your own homes, you are not safe from Allah, death, or the end of time. Hence, it serves as a warning to the populace. Allah said, “We will make them taste from the Minor punishment earthquakes, disasters, troubles (in Dunya) before the Major punishment” (In Jahanam). Allah is saying, “Oh, my slave, I’m touching you with tragedies in this world today to rouse you up from your slumber in all of our lives,” by bringing about such disasters. Perhaps some who had drifted away from Islam are brought back to their senses by some sort of catastrophe and rededicate their lives to Allah. 4. A Remindful Ire
The recent disasters have served an important purpose in helping me and you to finally snap out of our slumber. Allah says that nations before you had to deal with similar challenges; they either had to follow regulations or tour the world to see the destruction of non-believers. See the pharaoh who proclaimed himself God Almighty by representing a fewer part of the globe. And now, where did he disappear to? What happened to his kingdom? Discover what ultimately doomed the AAD and Thamud people. Where did all the luteans go? So, why does the modern Muslim ummah believe the political system is enough to regulate the masses and they abandoned the Quran and the Sunnah?. Aside from that, this is Allah’s recommended practice, or Sunnah; if you disobey, then you have to face His ire. While the current earthquake is indeed a terrifying event, there will come a time when the Earth will tremble and shake even more severely: on the day of judgment. 5. A Lesson
During the Turkish earthquake, a mother died as the wall collapsed while hiding her newborn baby.
In another video, an old uncle is imprisoned behind big concrete and people are telling him they’ll give him a blanket, but he responds, “Give me water so I can make Wudu and pray.” Meanwhile He was crushed by the next seismic disturbance. Imagine only our desires are squeezing us. Pure Islamic doctrine can only give us the Iman and its strength as we saw in the aforementioned event. Their uncle was not among the Messengers or sahaba, we should notice them. This state of Iman can only be achieved with the thorough knowledge of Quran. We should follow God’s commands listed in the Holy Quran. Learn and read the Quranic Arabic with English translation and at least try to obey the Godly commands. Why memorization of the Quran was heavily praised in the Hadith is because when you memorize the Quran you are memorizing the Godly commands will inshaAllah gives you the strength to choose the right path and shun the bad one.
6. A Source of Donation/Charity
Now dear fellow Muslims, they need our assistance and so now is our turn, our chance, our time to try and help them in whichever way we can. They don’t have anything except for the clothes on their back. If not financially, the minimum we can do is to make a Dua for them.
1- Having a sincere heart.
2- Having firm belief that Allah is the only one who will answer your Dua and that He is All-Hearing and powerful.
3- Performing Wudu.
4- Facing the Qiblah.
5- Raising hands sincerely.
6- Starting with praising Allah and praying upon His Messenger Muhammed.
7- Praying and praising to Allah by His beautiful names and attributes.
8- Repeating and insisting on Dua.
9- Making Dua for yourself and ummah.
10- Don’t be in a hurry and be sure that Allah answers Dua in the perfect time.
Conclusion
The lesson we should draw from the recent earthquake devastations is that Allah controls all and does what He wills, and that we are nothing but his slaves. Everything that could have happened to us or does happen to us may be viewed through this lens, and if we do so, we can find joy and success in all aspects of our lives. Trust in Allah and leave the outcome of the situation up to Him
